Review: Armies of By Fire and Sword

My copy of "Armies of By Fire and Sword" arrived today, and not really knowing what the book was about, I was quite eager to dive in and digest it.

By Fire and Sword: Tatars

Painting progress has been slow recently do to massive video gaming with Diablo 3 and Grim Dawn, but I did paint up a bunch of Tatar cavalry the other day.

BFAS: Russians vs Swedes Division Game

Alex, Joe Moore, Sean, Ben, and I got together this weekend for a giant BFAS game. We played a 57ish FSP division level game, comprised of Swedes vs a Russian Conglomerate (with Cossack and Polish allies).

By Fire and Sword: Cossack Moloitsy

Finished up a pile of Cossack Moloitsy. They are pretty much the crappy Cossack infantry, but the army will never turn down some guys with guns, and a couple banners are required choices in BFAS anyway. Added to the 8 stands I have done, this gives me 24 stands of them.

By Fire and Sword: Cossack Skirmish Set

Had two days off before GenCon, so in addition to banging out that DZC Thunderstorm Custom, I also knocked out the BFAS Cossack Skirmish Set, and a little something else....

Photodump: Historicon 2015

Another Historicon down, another Photodump blog post. This about sums up driving from DC to Fredericksburg.

By Fire and Sword: Historicon Vienna Game Playtest Pictures

14 armies, split across about 9 players. Good test of run for next week's game at Historicon.

By Fire and Sword: Base Labels

Busy prepping for Historicon. Finished off 9 more stands of Swedish Reiters that will be used as Imperial Cuirassiers for the event, but they still need dullcote so no pictures yet. I've also been working on labels for the back of the bases, printed off very tiny and cut to fit the back of the Litko bases. Should make the experience of walk-ins for the Historicon game a little easier.

By Fire and Sword: Guards Spahi/Silahdars

Finished off my Ottomans over the weekend with six stands of guards spahi.

By Fire and Sword: Ottoman Command Stands

A box of the Ottoman "high command". Gives me a division general (based 40x40), four additional skirmish/regiment commanders, and a foot commander.

By Fire and Sword: Ottoman Cannons

A nice battery of light Turkish guns.

By Fire and Sword: Turkish Spahi Reinforcements

18 stands of Ottoman Spahis with lances...six stands also wielding shields. This will allow me to field a full strength Bosnian regiment in division level games, and gives the Ottomans some real mobile punching power for my upcoming Historicon event...

By Fire and Sword: Janissaries

What a better way to celebrate Easter than by the Islamic forced conscription of young Christian boys from the 16th century.

By Fire and Sword: More Ottoman Spahis

Painted up another two alas of Spahis (without lances).

By Fire and Sword: Ottoman Segban Infantry

Some quick BFAS Ottoman Segban infantry. Progress was delayed by 1) ArcheAge and 2) lack of Dullcote.

By Fire and Sword: Ottoman Besli and Commanders

By Fire and Sword Ottoman Besli, as well as two command stands.

By Fire and Sword: More Ottoman Spahis (Now With Lances!)

Painted up another six stands of Ottoman Spahis. This batch has lances.

By Fire and Sword: Ottoman Spahis

Trying to knock out some of my Ottoman platoons between DZC Resistance waves arriving here in the U.S. Started off with a platoon of normal spahis with shields. Actually painted these twice - tried to do a "historically accurate" scheme with everyone in the different colored robes, but abandoned it after it was done because I thought it looked like crap.

By Fire and Sword: Winged Hussars

By Fire and Sword: Elite Cossacks

Painted up a squad of BFAS Elite Cossacks. They're just standard cossack figures with shields to let them stand out. This gives me almost 30 stands of cossack style cavalry to play with for BFAS, and lets me field some smaller end division level forces as well.
