Kings of War: Green Lady's Wild Guard

Painting has been kind of slow as I've been working on some house projects while waiting for bases to come in for my wood elves. But, I finished up a unit of elves for my "Green Lady's Wild Guard". It's an elite upgraded unit that can only be taken if you take the Green Lady, which I plan to. (She's on the painting table now!)

FoW: Cossack Artillery (AKA 15mm Headswaps wheee)

Some WW1 Cossack artillery. The figures are Battlefront WW2 Soviet artillery crew bodies, with Peter Pig cossack headswaps and Peter Pig guns. In fact, these are the only semi-Battlefront figures in my army.

FoW: Polish AK Piats

Painted up a few Piat teams for my 15mm Polish AK. Haven't done much with this army in a few years, but when I placed a recent Peter Pig order for some WW1 stuff, I noticed they had partisans with piats. These will get split into AK platoons, Kedyw platoons, and the Kedyw assault platoons.

FoW1918: Russian Cossacks

Some WW1 Russian cossacks. Models are Peter Pig. They really are amazing models. My painting doesn't do them justice. I'll probably use these to replace my Battlefront WW2 cossacks as well.

FoW and Bolt Action Polish

Some random EW Polish projects in two different scales. Picked up some armored cars at NOVA last year - finally got around to painting them up, along with six more 7TP tanks. Going to try to run Polish armor in the next EW league using my 10th motor as support rather than the core.

Flames of War: Bersaglieri Reinforcements and a Look at My Hobby Room

Some quick Bersaglieri reinforcements for my Flames of War Italians. Some more light ATGs will let me field two full MW Bersaglieri platoons, and I added a mortar platoon.

Weekend Update: 15mm Bersaglieri

Wow, has my painting spree slowed down. Between Christmas shopping and a major Eve deployment, the past week as hectic at best. I did however manager to paint up two squads of Bersaglierim in both 15mm and 28mm.

Painting Update: FoW T35s and BFAS Polish Volunteers

Was suprised to see Huzzah got in some T35s - I quickly grabbed them off the shelf and painted them the same night. Sadly, haven't used them in a game yet - having only two limits my options.

Photodump and AAR: Gencon 2013 (Heavy picture warning)

So I went to Gencon last weekend. It was my first time there, and my biggest convention to date with Historicon being a very, very, very, small, distant, tiny second. Ten hours in the car later...
We arrive at the Crossroads of Cornfields and Forests
Joe, who was driving up with me, made the comment that Indiana looks like a wargaming table. There's clear, concise lines where the woods clearly start and end. A random house scattered here and there. Hills that make no bearing on visibility at all. And no water features that we could see from the road.

Horses, Horses, Horses, and Not Horses...

I guess you could say I like painting horses. I did grow up on a horse farm. Maybe that has something to do with it...

EDIT: You know, I always find things wrong when I post up pictures. Blowing the pictures up to the size shown on the blog really brings some things out that I totally did not see early. It appears on some of the 15s, static grass and flock had gotten on to the figures before varnishing, so now I get to work on remove that...hooray!

First up we have some Polish Lancers. These are the Forged in Battle models. Some folks may remember that I already have (had) an EW Polish Lancer Army. Well, I sold that at the last swap meet because I couldn't stand the fact that the arms were separate pieces and kept breaking off. So here's to round two!

Operation Overlord : 1500pts 50th TT vs SS PanzerKo

Got in a quick Overlord game today against Chris J. (Too many Chris's around here!)

We only had a little under two hours, so we went with 1500pts, and I played a 16-model FV list.

Chris took three platoons of boots, a platoon of shermans with one firefly, 6pdrs, M10s, a trio of universal carriers, and 120mm mortars. I took four panthers, four PZ4s, and a platoon of 5 mech panzergrenadiers. The mission was Fighting Withdrawal.

Panthers hiding behind buildings from the mortar observer

PZ4s in the wheat field while the boots double time towards the woods

Recce carriers providing some covering fire

M10s pop out from behind a house

And knock out one Panther with a flank shot.

The Shermans knock out two PZ4s

The Panthers fail to kill any M10s in return fire, and one pays the price by dying to a front shot!

While the Shermans kill the rest of the PZ4 platoon. This isn't going well.

The Panzergrenadiers attempted to assault, but whiffed and died in the counterattack. The Panthers carry on an assault them off of the objective, but die in the following turn to M10s sneaking around the rear.

Well, that was certainly a quick game. Little over an hour from making the army list to tear-down. Germans, while getting thoroughly trounced, did manage to take down two platoons on their way out, for a 4-3 British victory.

Some SU-122s

These are Axis and Allies miniatures that I repainted.

They actually come prepainted, but I repainted them to match the rest of my Soviets. I'll need to keep my eye out for 5 more for my planned light SP arty list!

FoW: BT-5s

Painted up twenty two BT-5s this morning. The models are Zvezda. The models are pretty bad up close - lots of bend tracks and such, but at $5 a tank, who can complain?

Ready for Rising Sun!

More FoW 'Nam - Amuricans!

Painted up some US Airborne Riflemen. The blister was geared around a 7 stand platoon, but the Air Cav list I'm building uses 9, so I went with three figs per base to stretch it out, and it also let me avoid the poorer sculpts.

Operation Overlord: Seize and Hold - British Paras vs Whittman's Tigers

Today Chris and I played our first Overlord game. We intended to get one in last week, but ended up playing 'Nam instead. I was playing British Paras and Chris was playing Wittman and Tigers.

The board

The British list from Overlord consisted of:
  • Two full para platoons
  • One full para engineer platoon
  • Four 6pdrs
  • Two 17 pdrs
  • Four HMGs
  • Four medium mortars
  • Heavy naval cruiser support
The German list from Atlantik Wall consisted of:
  • Whittman
  • Platoon of two Tigers
  • Platoon of two Tigers
  • Full platoon of gez. panzergrenadiers
  • Small platoon of pioneers
We played Seize and Hold. So what if we're past the airlanding stage - we doin' it anyway!

Panzergrenadiers holding an objective in the forest

First wave of paras comes on - para platoon, engineer platoon, and HMGs

The engineers double time forward prepping for a flamer attack next turn

Which knocks out one panzerpioneer

The following assault kills one, but the Gemans wisely break off

Engineers take to the trees

On turn two, both Tiger platoons arrive in the corner behind my HMGs. Luckily, the assault only kills one HMG and they are able to take refuge behind some paras.

Whereas my 6pdrs arrive in the opposite corner

One pioneer standing outside the house that holds the rest of the platoon. You can hear a faint "Guys? Hey guys? Um....guys?"

Tigers sitting perhaps a little too close to the woods. Don't worry, I failed my tank terror.

Far flank paras assault the pioneers in the building, but Whittman comes over and pushes the paras back.

Day finally breaks on turn 5, allowing the naval cruiser to pound a tiger.

Next turn the naval cruiser kills one halftrack and bails two. Nice saves =)

And the following turn, kills another Tiger. Wait, is this just a blog about "What my naval cruisers killed?"

With only one Tiger left in this platoon, the paras take it down.

And fun back to their woods

Halftrack shooting whittles down the engineers, but they stay.

Another round of naval gunfire makes the panzergrenadiers run, leaving the objective open.

But no reason we can't kill one more Tiger before we take it, right?

Game ends in a 6-1 victory for the British. Looking forward to another game later this week where I'll hopefully be debuting my new Task Force A.
